These terms are the agreement between you and Recess for using the Recess app and this website. Using Recess means you agree to them. We have kept them short and readable.
Who we are
"Recess," "we," and "us" refer to the maker of the Recess iOS app and studyrecess.com. Reach us at support@studyrecess.com.
Using Recess
We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use Recess on devices you own or control, for your own studying. Please do not copy, resell, reverse-engineer, or try to break or abuse the service, and do not use it to do anything illegal.
Your content
The notes, files, decks, and cards you create are yours. You keep all rights to them. You grant us only the limited permission needed to run the app for you, such as passing your material to our AI provider to generate a deck at your request. As explained in our Privacy Policy, we do not store that material on our servers. You are responsible for having the right to upload whatever you upload.
The AI, and what it is (and is not)
Recess uses AI to turn your material into flashcards. AI can be wrong. Cards may contain mistakes or miss things, so treat Recess as a study aid, not a source of truth, and always check anything that matters against your own notes and course material. Recess does not provide medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
Screen Time features
Recess uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) to shield the apps you choose until you study. It is a self-control tool that you set up and can change or turn off. It is not a security or parental-monitoring product, and we do not guarantee it will block every app in every situation.
Subscriptions and billing
- Recess requires an active subscription (Recess Pro). New subscribers may be offered a free trial; current prices and any trial length are shown in the app and on the App Store before you buy.
- Subscriptions are sold through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- If you start a free trial and do not cancel before it ends, it rolls into a paid subscription.
- Manage or cancel any time in your Apple Account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms, not by us directly.
Cancellation and changes
You can stop using Recess whenever you like. We may add, change, or remove features over time, and we may update or discontinue the service. If we make a material change to these terms, we will update this page and move the effective date.
Disclaimer
Recess is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent allowed by law. We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated cards will be accurate or complete.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Recess is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including any reliance on AI-generated study material or on the Screen Time features. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
